About SEOM

The Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) is a private, educational body, founded in order to stimulate progress in the scientific knowledge of cancer, through the training and continued education of doctors specialising in Oncology and exchanges between national and overseas professionals for scientific purposes.

It currently has over 1000 members and its president is a renowned medical oncologist, changing every two years, so that all professionals with a mutual interest in this field of health care are represented.

One of the main purposes of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) is to encourage the study of and research on neoplastic disease and to seek the standardisation of clinical-therapeutic criteria in the diagnosis and treatment thereof. To this end, it proposes, amongst other actions, promoting the development of the suitable therapeutic means, co-ordinating these means in a harmonious and complementary manner, and encouraging the uniformity of criteria in the treatment of cancer in its various sites and extensions.

Furthermore, the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology enjoys great social prestige thanks to its participation in informational and primary and secondary prevention campaigns aimed at the population and offers support to patients and their families.
